1928 construction

The sorority was designed by famed architect Joseph Royer, in the French Norman chateauesque style.

The main entrance was on Vermont Avenue and its focal point was the striking rotunda.

1962 extension

In 1962 an extension was constructed on the West side of the property to accommodate the growing membership of the sorority. Students moved there in the Fall of 1963.

The dark years (2010-2017)

The ZTA sorority closed its UIUC chapter in 2010. The building was rented for one year, vandalized, and subsequently completely neglected. Its only occasional inhabitants were squatters, and its condition worsened over the years. Yet its gracious features and intrinsic beauty remained. To help protect the building against potential demolition, concerned Urbana citizens nominated it for designation as a historical landmark.
